driving home as usuall, about 300m away from home and a car pulled out on me, i was hidden behind another car turning off down the road that this other car was coming from, i saw it all in slow motion, i was 5-10m away from the junction doing about 20mph behind this other car, as he pulled out, it looked like he was slowing down to let me carry on, but he just didnt see me or didnt react quick enougth!
his bumper hit my leg, scuffed and cracked my lower fairing, and snapped my rear set hanger (nearside), lucky enougth i didnt come off. we both stopped of, he seemed like a decent block and was quite concerned, we swapped details and headed off, i rode it home stuck in second gear, good thing i didnt have to go far!! leg seems fine at the moment, although it was quite a thud!!! we will see, but thank god thats all that happened! just before i set off from work, i had just said to a colluege that i hadnt been in an accident for 4 years!! tempting fait or what!!! lol question, does anyone know how much a nearside rearset hanger cost? (triangle bit with 3 mounting holes in it) and does anyone have one lying around which needs a new home? cheers |

lol, not quite that bad, the rearset was hanging on by the gear selector rod, i had to disconnect it to ride home, so no foot rest or gear lever on that side, just the hanger is damaged, i want a price for it so i can ring up the bloke with cost of damage and see if he wants to settle it privately

Bad luck Adam, I would get your leg checked out, at least by your GP, he may want it Xrayed, you'd be amazed how much you can be paid out for what seems like a minor injury, I was awarded £700 for gravel rash after being knocked off my pushbike.
Converwsely I only got £6000 for a serious injury to my knee which eventually stopped me riding my pushbike. If you settle privately any possible long term damage to your leg won't be taken into account. You pay enough for your insurance, now let them earn their money ! |

blimey, thats quite a pay out for a graze!! to be honest, my leg seems fine, no lump, bruse or red mark, just sligthest tender feeling to the touch, is nothing,
and my next insurance premium has just dropped to £170, even tho its not my fault, and i dont want to risk that going up! Last edited by adam_castell; 23-02-07 at 09:40 PM. |

i'm hunting around for insurance quotes at the moment and i have to tell them about the accident i had in october, this is pushing my premium up a little but not much £20 - £30 from what i can see. oldjack is right you should go the insurance route if you have an injury, give it a day or so and see how you feel.

Sorry i have to say this but i really cant abide this American style litigation culture that is consuming Britain today! "claims direct" this and "national accident helpline" that
![]() Sure if someone is in the wrong then they should pay to repair the bike/equipment, and if someone has a serious injury then perhaps a claim might be appropriate(I.E. they can't work or cant use their only form of transport) But i really dont like the idea of holding someone to ransom to get some extra cash. In my opinion they should make good your losses...but you should not profit from an accident. If the shoe was on the other foot how would you like it? |
