Hi all,
I am so confused I thought I put this up here to see what people think - This is completely non bike related so stop now if you want to stay awake ![]() To make a long story short, I got annoyed after being told that no one in the company is getting a payrise. I put my CV on monster and had an couple of interviews and within a week of putting it up I HAD AN OFFER!!!! for a considerable amount more money...... I resigned on Friday and the MD had his chat with me today - COUNTEROFFER time, a new position in a senior management role......more responsibility ect, I told him I want to think about it tonight...... After reading loads of articles ,there are so many on google it seems pretty standard and most of them advise to move on. Anyone been in a similar position, do you stick with confort and stay where u are. I know I shouldn't complain cause I'm in a good position at the moment but I diddn't think it was going to be this stressfull. Any thoughts......Apologies for boring you all ![]() |

overworked, realized i'm doing constant 12 hour days and sometimes coming home doing more work. - He assured me resource issues will be addressed. Also moral is very low as they made quite a few people redundant in november, the main thing was the payrise and the fact that i wasn't recognised for the efforts over the last year.
but the above is manageable, just not sure if they are for real and if I will be first out if they have to cut heads again........... ![]() Last edited by svJvJ; 09-05-07 at 11:36 PM. |

what kept you there for so long? there's a lot to be said for the environment and enjoying what you do.
does more responsibility = more blame/pressure when the promised resources don't turn up? can you try it for a while and jump if you don't like it or the promises don't materialise? if your head rolls later on, will you get a good payoff and be able to walk into another job offer as easily as you've just done? |

moving jobs could give you the motivation you need. They obviously think you've got the skills and are willing to reward you for that. An employer would rather see someone who's developed a broad range of skills in different companies searching their potential than someone who sits in the same job for years. They won't question why you switched jobs if you were moving up- go for it!

Do you want to be a senior manager, is that where you want to be, and is that what your other offer is for too?
But if you are really torn, stay where you are, give it your best, see how it works out and if not chances are there'll still be job offers out there, seeing as it was wasy to get one this time. I had a mate who thought he was leaving a place three times, got persuaded to stay twice and it went well for him, so staying not necessarily bad.

the offer with the new company is a step back on the career ladder I am a team leader now......(only one report) and the new job is just for a network engineer but it pays more.....
I will discuss the salary with him tomorrow If they want me to stay they would have to better it not just match. Thanks a lot for all the comment so far, Its really great getting all this feedback from people I haven't met yet...I will have to come to the AR to meet you lot. ![]() |
