Default Flooded house update

Now it's all settled down and the water has gone we can see what is needed for normal life to resume, we now have 3 large dehumidifiers running 24 hours a day, noisy or what but the amount of water they are collecting is impressive. luckily we are on hols for 4 days. the carpets are now in our carport waiting for the assessor to come. definately to replace are, carpets, internal doors, skirting boards, kitchen units, fridge an washing machine, possibly the 2 piece suite and a corner unit, otherwise all else is hunky dory. we are now looking at ways of stopping water coming through the doors. I suppose we could seal them permanently and use the windows or just have the house raised on stilts

Daryl.

Most modern PVC doors, when closed & bolted (lift handle up usually) are pretty water tight (double rubber seals etc).

The problem mainly comes when the frames give way, or so I'm told. So you're probably looking at new exterior doors, with better frames attached to the walls better.

Expensive, but it should help to negate the flood risk element of your buildings/contents insurance. Maybe even ask them to pay for it, in hindsight after you've been flooded.

Hope everything sorts itself out quickly.

Hope you have a good 4 days break . . . sounds like good therapy to me. Let the insurance take the strain.

Sounds like alot of work but hopefully you will be all cosy very soon.

Big hugs for you and yours

Shell
