Default Seat padding

Ive just sculpted me seat down by approx 35 mm and can now just about get the balls of me feet down but could go another 25 mm I reckon, the problem is it leaves not a lot padding under the seat so was going to put a gel pad under the cover until I saw the price. Then I had a brain wave, has anyone used the closed cell foam padding that campers use under there sleeping bags ? you know the roll mats that we had at the AR last year and if so are they any good ?
Ta

Ooops, thanks Paws

Yes indeedy, it's good stuff to use sparingly. It can be a little firm but does absorb impact extremely well.

Don't scrimp though, the really cheap stuff is pretty rubbishy, pay a little more and get the twin layer ones, last one I got was about £6 IIRC, two different foams in light/dark grey.

If you do want gel pads, I found the cheapest way was from horse tack suppliers, they do big ones for under saddles (sometimes go under the name "numnah"). The one I bought was proper gel inside a tough nylon type cover, some seat modifiers actually use silicone rubber honeycomb but describe it as "gel-pads".
I found the best stuff to seal the edge of the gel pad when cut to size was the pvc tape used to join ventilation ducting (doesn't come unstuck with time). The gel pads are very heavy though.

Cheers Murray, gonna use some of the foam padding to start with and see how I get on with it, ive got a bed roll from last years AR with the dual layers so will give that a go
