Hmm. Curious about this- if it's so bad to store them in the cold, how come it's not bad to keep my bike in the garage in winter? Gets well below 25 degrees out there...

Keeping the tyre warm will help the fitting. A cold tyre goes very stiff and makes it difficult to fit.

Modern tyres are very robust. I just keep mine in the (unheated) garage and have not noticed any adverse effects. I can't imagine (unless we're talking more than a couple of years storage, and/or lots of changes in/extremes of temperature) it really makes much difference.
Think what most tyre shops are like; typically large open fronted buildings, tyres often in sunlight at some point during the day/in the cold in winter. |
