£211 is steep, but then, who much is thier labout charge. This varies an imense amount around the country. I think i paid about £112 for a 4k service, but that was 46000 miles ago! I now change the oil and filter on my bike every 5kish, clean the plugs, bang the air filter out every now and again, and just check and do things as needed.

Indeed, once again, labour charges don't just change with the wind, so finding out what they are and how long the job should take (they will have most jobs listed by time) an the written quote should be very close to the final price.

Cheers Mark.

I'm wandering if as Bigape has said they changed them due a time period elapsing rather than a milleage period.

TBH £211 does seem a bit steep for a 4K service I would have though it would have been around the £160 ish mark.
That seems a reasonable explanation but a lot of dosh either way. Some dealers do go by the book more than by knowledge. A low mileage bike may still need new plugs after a period of time so they've changed em as a routine. May be worth checking to ensure they did actually fit the new parts.

Taylors in Chippenahm always did a good service for me nearly always charging less than the quote given - unfortunately they have gone into liquidation - Fowlers, it seems, don't want to make the same mistake!!

Do you know why taylors went under?? they alwayts done a good job and i thought at a good price as well, £160 for 15K service (the big one) in all parts - the air filter as i have K&N.

I did have my bike booked in with them for a chain ans sprocket change, the week they went bust. only found out by word of mouth, otherwise i would have been sat there outside an empty shop

It's entirely possible they checked the plugs and found them in not very good shape- SV front plugs in particular can corrode badly as things can get a bit wet in there. Or all the other reasons listed also make sense.

Or, of course, they could be ripping you off Or possibly they made a genuine mistake, you never know.

Changing plugs shouldn't be expensive though, the rear one takes minutes and the front, not much longer, even for a monkey.

Could be they overstetched themselves with new shop in Swindon. I heard that they shut up shop and ran with all the stock, servicing kit etc. Some of the staff, Phil the salesman, the long haired mechanic are at the new Triumph dealership just down the road from George Whites.

They did seem to be stocking fewer bikes from last summer and as you say always did a good deal. I got quite a lot of kit with good discounts over the last couple of years.

I went down to get some info on my front discs and sat there a few mins trying to absorb the fact that the shop was empty! Then I saw the posters in the windows. Looks like George Whites from now on although may consider Bike Treads as well.

I checked the maintenance schedule in detail and found that it states that plugs should be changed annually or at 7500 miles.

One year will be up in 6 weeks time so I've got no basis to grumble. The only reason the bike went to Fowlers was to retain the warranty. Rest assured that won't continue.

Thanks to all who posted.

I had my gixer serviced yesterday at George White in Swindon, £129 for the 4K. I thought that was pretty good considering they have to remove the fairings. Also I got a loan bike, a new Yam Fazer. Top service. I took my SV there (when I had it) for its three services and all were very well done.

You'll be thinking of JHS Racing.

Funny thing is the one person who said they'd used them was not impressed.

I suspect you benefit from discounted labour rates as you bought your bike from them Beenz?
