I have an xda2 which I have had for a few years and wanted to use it for navigation, so after some searching on prices I then went hunting for a bluetooth GPS and the TOMTOM nav prog.
Found this GPS ( i-blue 737 ) for £20 from e-bay and downloaded the TOMTOM ( not saying where as it is a bit naughty ). So all told with postage it cost me a total of £32.50 The GPS unit is brill, works perfectly with the xda2 and the TOMTOM. So if you have a PDA already and don't want to spend loads of money I would suggest going this way. |

I've got an XDA Orbit, which has built-in GPS receiver and came with Co-Pilot sat nav software and car kit. All for less than the price of the cheapest TomTom.

Same way that I do SatNav in the car. Only I paid slightly more (but then I can boast that my SatNav works in most tunnels (including the handful I've tried going through mountains or under rivers).
Viney, can your map point you to the best route (given traffic conditions, roadworks, accidents, one way systems etc) into a city that you've never been to find a specific address? Especially when you're pushed for time? I rest my case. ![]() |

Baph, of course not that would be silly. However, i am a homing viney and havent failed yet to get to my destination in a speedy manner. Good planning (Printing of a local street map for specific addresses) will beat SatNav everytime.
Satnavs are flawed. They work on certian algorythms(sp?) ans go certian ways. For example, from My girlfriends house(croydon) to her brothers(Barnton, Cheshire) set to fastest route, it will take her M25, M1, M6, M6Toll, M6 etc etc. Where the quickest route is M25, M40, M42, M6Toll, M6 etc. Its 30 miles shorter and to date has always been the quickest route, yet it brings her back that way. I still dont get it. I reckon that i could get from A-B faster and in less distance using a map etc than using a satnav device. You will never beat local knowledge |

As a person who gets lost just going to the corner shop a satnav is important.
Went to Squires from warrington last Sunday. Missed the turning and ended up in Tadcaster, then york. Phoned the wife and she guided me to Squires. Now if I had the PDA with me I wouldn't have gotten lost. Enjoyed the ride though and got to know some roads. |
