Default Re: Claim for Damaged Helmet / Leathers on Home Insurance?

I was asking about this a few months back and Viney (I think) said that'd he'd claimed under his non-insured loss section of his bike insurance. Might be worth giving that a go.
My household insurers won't insure my leathers because they're "sports equipment"...

Result! Direct Line home contents will cover me for new helmet, boots, armour, back protector under personal possessions damage. Now why did I not say my leathers were a write off to? So there is another £500 quid saved. Off to HG Chester tomorrow to get a written quote for replacement bits.

Surely they are only sports equipment if it can be proven you compete in them. I wear jeans and t-shirts when I drive cars, does that mean my t-shirts are sports equipment?

Bike leathers are clothing, pure and simple - specialised clothing but clothing all the same. Commuting on a bike during winter is not a sport, if it was I'm sure the International Olympic Commitee would be interested to hear about it.

my ex claimed for a few helmets. he bashed them carrying them on and off submarines, never even a quibble. another guy I know came off his bike and successfully claimed for new helmet leathers, boots, gloves without having to send them off. it only works if you have accidental cover I think. direct choice bike insurance offer leathers cover for £10 a year, which i thought was ok
