Welcome aboard Carl, this ride out was as good as cancelled (I should be haring across the dales right now, instead I'm sat in the sitting room looking out at the rain) so you havent missed out!

Will be organising another for mid September so keep an eye on the Pennine Massive for more details.

Gordon

Are you lot water soluble or something? Running Slicks?

There's no such think as bad weather, just in appropriate clothing!
I'm a fishing instructor and we just don't do bad weather. If the world is still spinning, we get out there

I've just got my pot off a broken leg and I'm itching for another ride. Since I got the SV, It's been *very* difficult to get out without a pillion. Seems as soon as I hit the starter button, somone appears all kitted up and raring to go!

I'll be out on it tomorrow (going to Newcastle to fit a Maxton Fork kit) and it can be snowing, I'm still going

I actually like riding in the rain. It makes you smoooooth. Especially in the Lakes and Borders where the roads are beautiful and clean.

Do the Penine Posse get together for a drink now an again?

Cheers,
Carl

What a fantastic Chickenstrips run today!

It started with a free Big Breakfast in Skipton, for me, Nemo, Ian and GMS - because the manager remembered us from the last run and said we were regulars!

Then, the blast up to Devils was amazing. Thanks to Tim for going to Midnight Mass last night - obviously he supped a bit more wine and put a bit more on the plate than normal, because the weather he asked for arrived spot on - blue sky all the way, and temperatures in the mid-70s!

But the best bit was the Police guy who met us at Devil's and, because things had been quiet before, not only radioed ahead and got his pals to shut off the road all the way to Hawes, but also made sure that it flowed one-way for the whole afternoon - just like the IoM!

The Michelin guys in the service area, on this basis, suggested a softer tyre than usual and would not accept a penny for them - something that Nemo put to good effect when he hit 187mph past Ribbleshead - he would have got it a bit faster but GMS was overtaking him at the time.

Even the travelling Police Marshal's were impressed with that one, particularly as it vindicated their suggestion that GMS ran open pipes for the afternoon - the Police Dyno got GMS's bike up to 103bhp with that mod!

Great day out - and I never had to use the tractor once to pull anyone from a field.

Sounds like you had a great day,
I went out too for a little test ride, but stayed below 70mph as didn't want to bust anything,
Everything stayed where it should, ie Oil in the oil compartments and Coolant in the radiator and water jackets... All the gears work fine and dandy... yes all 6 of them, in the correct order too.
had to do a road side adjustment on the gear paddel possition, as it was too high.
So a local copper closed part of the lane I was on so I could do my fix... by the time he got the cones in place I was finished... "Better to be safe than sorry" he said.
Yes a very fine day it was, even if it was drizzing all day, that really wet drizzel that gets you really wet...

We did Moped Mayhem there a few years back.

Bit short a circuit at 1300m though, isn't it? I mean the straights can't be more than a maximum of a quarter mile long if that? I'm not sure I'd fancy riding a kart circuit, it'd be a bit blinking twisty without much real chance to get speed up.

On an SV, you'd be lucky to hit 70 before having to brake for the next corner!

You got it then Richie?

I don't give a bugger if it's raining or not but those going out might.

Good to see you got the bike back on the road! great read the other thread. I hope it never comes in useful.

WRC, We used to go and watch "Propper" bikes race there a lot and the side cars were absolutely gobsmacking! On the back straight you'd be able to wind it on no problemto scary numbers.

And the lack of straights means lots and lots of lovely bends which to me are far better than the straights anyway.

Its a serious track for bikers and its a real shame they don't race the big stuff there any more.

Cheers,
Carl
