It's like adding the halfords catalogue to your guitar, twin necks were cool as it allowed two different tones/style of guitar. Batio was just trying far too hard. Malmsteen is king

I've got a Variax 600 - It's beautiful, however it makes it harder to find excuses to buy more planks
totaly different to a double neck but id like to see someone play a double neck with both hands, oh no you'd need four arms no one can do what Micheal Angelo does and you carnt say that about any other guitarist, even if it does sound pants
ive never understood the concept of two guitars stuck together both facing the same way, you can only play one at a time just get a twelve string and a six and save your shoulder

Vai plays both at once. Often with a sampler, but not always. Guitar is about the passion, not the speed. Look at slash; perhaps the laziest player out there yet one of the best! (it only took him 30 years...) Batio is talented but it's youtube 30 seconds music, not rock conert material.

Make that 3 necks. I don't remember the name of the song, I think it's on G3 latest DVDs, triple neck guitar, IIRC it's 1 12 string that goes into a sampler (or Eventide, or everything all at once), 1 normal 6 string and 1 fretless 6 string. I'll try looking for it in youtube, must be there somewhere.

Oh, and another Variax / PODxt Live user here. And yes, I know real guitars and valves are better, but you can't beat my rig for the price I paid for it, thank you very much. *jealous mode off*

They're ace aren't they! You can get a better sound out of these than many systems costing thousands. Simply because they're set up perfectly. You need your own roadies otherwise! Is it worth getting the XT Live? I play through a fletone III at the moment.

depends what style of music you play ie theres no point having a vintage valve amp if you play thrash metal, i never got on with line6 i dont think an amp sim sounds anything like miking up a nice cab

I never tried the Flextone, so I can't vouch for it... but I'm in love with the XT Live, I bought it before I got the Variax and that's what made me take a very serious look at that guitar. If you're not afraid of tweaking to get "that" sound, then it's worth it (and the PC / Mac interface is a very good bonus, plus it allows you to use the Variax Workbench without further add-ons). When you start doing it then you're really into tweakheaven...

Just make sure you upgrade the POD's software (you can do it on the Mac too), and get a decent external compressor stompbox if you need one, the internal ones aren't that good (of course you can forget the internal noisegate after doing that, but hey... it couldn't be perfect).

Oh, and btw, I love daisy chaining my SansAmp into the PODxt... yes I am nuts and proud of it!

I know. Read above comment about price, though. Being a Vai fan (whatever...) I'd kill for a Carvin Legacy and a coupe of JEMs, plus some other niceties like Eventides, Digitech Whammys, Morley Little Aligators and Bad Horsies, and some Keeley modded BOSS distortion pedals, etc etc... the problem is I'm not rich and don't have the room to put all this junk. The XT lives nicely under my desk, though, and it didn't put a hole through my bank account.

Exactly. I'd rather have the originals any day of the week even it'd sound too similar to differentiate.

Lead sound designer Jeff Slingluff told me he once set up a blind listening test for some industry guitar players to see if they could tell the modelled Line 6 amp from the original. To start with, the listeners always picked out the Line 6 model even before a note was played — because the hum went away whenever the signal was switched to the Line 6 amplifier! To make things fairer, he set up a third tube amp between the two, and left it ticking over with no input so that there was background hum all the time, and after he'd done that, the results were split almost 50/50, which is exactly what you should get if the sounds are too close to tell apart.

It's not fair is it!
