well so far guys and girls if I can find a nice mk1 golf gti cabriolet that would probably be the winner. I'm luckily not in a rush so I can take my time and find a good one. Please keep the suggestions coming after all if I have to subject myself to a cage Im going to make it a good one!

Alfa GTV 3ltr V6 Described as a 'mini ferrari' in its time. Get a good one, get it looked after by an independent and you have one hell of a car for in essence peanuts. www.sportsalfa.com is this sites equivalent.

Lovely v6 engine, beautiful interior, striking exterior, 240 bhp (with a couple of mods) not many on the road so won't be 'common'. And of course "you are not a proper petrolhead until you have owned an Alfa".

Only one problem in my eyes, they ain't rear wheel drive. But hey, you can't have everything.
