How many miles has it done?
I rode a Kawasaki zephyr 550 for 3 winters and that was in a bad way but no way as bad as your photos ...

Good luck with the rebuild

Cheers Steve

would you believe she has passed every one of her M.O.T's since I got her three years ago and to be quite fair, she hasn't changed that much in those three years neither. That shock has been like that for all that time....it still works you know

remember its only rust

anyway, should have a new one on her any day now...Lissa what do you think of the progress on the forks?

in answer to the question of mileage? 21000, which is 9000 less than my other

Looking much better Dizzy, I can see you've put some real effort in

Satisfying, isn't it?

I'd love to be able to sort a bike like that. But I wouldn't know where to start.

they're far from finished, they got a few lumpy bits I can't get rid of...nitromorse wasn't tough enough, spent all day yesterday, scrubbing and polishing, to get half way there. Haven't got a bench grinder like you, and i want to say to everyone when they're done that I did them rather than cheating and getting a polish shop to do it.

i keep comparing them to my other Sv but they ain't shiny enough yet, and i haven't even got to the wheel rims yet. thats after i attack the front subframe with dome potent rust stuff. I cheated with the rear and bought another one

thats pretty much what my K1 looks like after 36K and a few salty winters, apart from my chain and rear shock are now where near as bad as your are !!!

( only because it had new chain and sprocket and a 2nd hand OEM rear shock fitted a while back )

Surface rust and dirt doesnt really bother me on the SV, I'd rather ride my bikes than spend time polishing the hell out of them, but fair play to you if you're gonna do it, do it properly.
