I couldn't change down without blipping the throttle if I tried, it's built in !

The first time you try this you'll find it awkward and will probably find it difficult to blip for each down shift whilst braking without applying the brakes harder each blip. It just takes practice to get it right but it sure does make things smoother and gets you through a corner a hell of a lot quicker. We talked in Blue's thread about a common trackday sight whereby non-racers brake WAY to early. This is partly the reason. Because they either dont know how or havent practiced doing all this stuff at the same time they have to seperate them and that translates into needing to brake over a much longer distance. You'll be surprised just how late you need to brake once you get this technique sussed. |

I do it on the road and use two fingered braking. I didn't even bother trying at Silverstone due to the mental straights there and not wanting to overshoot the corner. I didn't get a single locked rear wheel but on my first SV trackday (wet) the rear was locking all over the place. I liked it in the end but only done it in a straight line.
All points noted, I'll try it next time on track. ![]() |

I always blip, even with slipper clutch, it really does become second nature after a while. I don't think you locked up as you probably weren't high in the revs when changing down but the more confident you get on trackdays the more you'll change down higher up the rev range.

I suppose waiting til the last few yards and then changing down a few gears at once would sacrifice the engine braking? |

+2. I prefer to blip, but it's not so I don't lock the wheel, you can slip the clutch for that (what did we do before slipper clutches?) the only reason is that I don't want to put the extra wear and tear on my clutch.
