I need a new one before this one claps out completey.
I have only ever had Toshibas and have been pleased with them all except my current one i am using. The 2 prior to this one are still going strong and we are using them still at work today... The latest replacement is a Toshiba Portege S100 which are well known for their ruggedness, slimline, work horse... blah blah blah. The problem is the fan has been replaced under warranty last year and is about to go again. I use it 12-18 hrs a day at least 5-6 days a week and it just cant cope. In short this one is a dog. The Portege M300 I had prior has a low-voltage chip so doesnt heat up and has been brilliant - they dont make them anymore though ![]() So today I am looking for something to last 3 years or so with constant usage. Requirements are a low voltage chip again (or something that doesnt get hot), small (12 inch preferred), light weight, 3 year warranty and rugged enough for daily use. I have been looking at the Thinkpads as an alternative but havent used them and the new Porteges are ?1200 which are over my budget. Any experiences of something similar would be great - or if corporate IT support bods have any other recommendations I would be interested in opinions. Cheers, Grant |

My old Tosh laptops were great, newer ones; not so great. My 18 month old Macbook is still going as strong as it was when new and it's on nearly 24/7. Worth considering anyway, I'm not going to say anymore as there's nothing worse than a smug mac owner

Seems to be what I am finding too - am a little gun shy now and to spend that much makes it even harder. I cant do Macs just because of the software changes and having to learn how to use it.

I just bought a Sony Vaio and so far I LOVE it! My hubby just bought a Gateway and so far it seems to be good too.
I've had an HP that was good, and my work laptop is a dell. They've all been good so far. |

I am very pleased with my new Dell latitude D630. Very robust - bigger screen than you want, but it's a good bit of kit.

Thanks for the options. I found a cheap Portege online so will stick with Toshiba since they promise to fix it if it ever breaks - and they will give a full refund on top so cant go to far wrong.
