Hmm, strange one this.
Last night, my Phillips FlatTV (forget the model number, but I'm pretty sure at this point it's irrelevant) was working fine. It was turned off softly (power switch on side), left on at the wall socket as we always do. This morning, turn it on, and there's sound, but the display isn't quite right. There's vertical stripes down across the entire width, each maybe 2-3 pixels wide. These change colour whenever the picture that should be on the TV changes. There's also approx 4-5 horizontal lines that are about 1 pixel wide, randomly spread out down the height of the screen. So far, my thoughts are incorrect voltage being supplied to the LCD controller (maybe a blown capacitor in the PSU), or the screen needs re-torquing. Both are jobs I should be able to sort out, thankfully. Ideas anyone? (Queue K "hit it with a hammer"). |

I had a TV this happened to, it was sent back and deemed broken so they offered a replacement (out of warranty). I'd chase it up with Philips, even out of warranty an LCD should last longer.

On the one hand, it's not under warranty, so I wouldn't expect them to give a damn. I'm also fairly confident that I can fix it (if it's the causes that I mentionned). Also, it was the last of the line from the shop, and I got a discount for that, and the fact it was out on display in the shop. On the other hand, you don't get if you don't ask... Did you have to pay anything to get them to look at it, or indeed pay anything towards the replacement? |

Philips are ******s. I would never buy another Philips set. I had one go after 3 years and they were totally disinterested. I know it's out of warranty, but 3 years??? When I was little, some time ago, TV's used to last forever.

Hmmm, those would be CRT TVs. I'd argue they don't last forever, having seen many many more failures with CRTs than I have with LCD/Plasma.

have you tried turning it off and on again? no seriously...
Switch it off at the wall, unplug it for a minute or two, then plug it back in, leave it for a minute or two then switch it on Don't laugh, this has worked for me when my Sky+ box had a brain fade...

Are all your scarts / leads inserted properly. I've had a scart lead come loose and had sound but no picture.
