Default coolant temperature display not working

I've just changed the clock as it was still an hour behind and now I have lost my coolant temperature display. It just shows three hyphens like this: --- and then the 'c' for degree celsius.
There's nothing in the manual apart from that that display is also for the FI altho it doesn't say how. Has anyone else had this and how can you get it back to work? I can do without this as I'm going to france soon. Hope you can help. I've switched the bike off and on again a couple of times and it's still the same. Starts ok but nothing shows up.

My other halfs K5 and my GSXR dont show any temperature at all till the water temp has reached 21 degrees ish.. are you sure that its broken or is the engine not warm enough to register any temp ?

if you start it and go for a ride does it show any temp at all during the ride ?

Like Fizzwhel says, it needs to be warmed up before it'll show coolant temp. The dashes appear when it's stone cold.

Must have never looked at it before when still in the garage. Took it out the garage, started and et volia 21 degrees. The delights of having a new bike.

The dealership should of explained that though. I know they did with mine, they even told me not to ride anywhere until it displayed something for temp.

Don't talk to me about the dealership. I got a cheap bike but I'm not impressed with them. Not even going back there for services. So many things that have gone wrong. They phoned me on the day the bike was going to be delivered that the bike hadn't been roadtested yet so it was going to be a day later. It took them 2 weeks between the day I bought it and the day it was delivered. I got it on 0% finance only had my card bit of my licence had to go back (in march cold weather and drizzle) esp. to show them my paper part. They delivered the bike with heated grips badly fitted and no bar ends. I was told my original grips were in the topbox and so were the bar ends (that no longer fitted). It took a couple of weeks of phonecalls (never returned when they said they would) to get them to solve the problem and they agreed to look at it and have different bar ends fitted. Then I asked them when i bought the bike to put it on the lowest suspension setting, yes that was no problem, because it took them two weeks to deliver it I phoned the day before expected delivery to remind them, yes no problem. The bike got delivered I asked the delivery guy, yes it was on its lowest setting. Then my friend looked at it last weekend and said i had 2 notches to go (which is a nice surprise) but it would have helped on my first ride on the bike as it was v high because i hadn't had the foam taken out of the seat or the longer dogbones fitted. Think that's about it, maybe it should go in the 'shame' section but I don't think I can be bothered. They only explained the bare minimum and I have had 3 bikes before this one all air-cooled so I have no clue about this water cooled business. Still don't. An RAC man told me when he was tending to a friend's bike that it's all done when the bike's serviced this checking coolant but I don't know. It's Groombridges by the way in Cross in Hand, East Sussex.
The delivery man got lost as the company wouldn't provide them with sat nav he was complaining.
