The tax is actually pretty low on bikes IMO, would much rather see a cut on fuel duty TBH.

I'm off work today and in a smartarsed mood so, sorry in advance, but:
Between 2000 and 2007 fuel tax inc VAT rose from 58.6p to 63.7p, which is under half the rate of inflation (which would have put it to 71p) Tax per litre (total, including VAT) is down in real terms since 2000. Likewise in 05-07 tax rose from 60.6 to 63.7 total, which was 1.5p below inflation. Brown increased fuel tax in his early budgets but has effectively decreased it every year since 99 I don't know what the current prices have done to VAT though, an extra 4p per litre or so at a rough guess- I don't have the base numbers to do it right. That eats up about half of the cuts since 2000, but it's still a net cut. Surprising, isn't it ![]()

i would be more concerned with the raised petrol prices, if you do any sort of mileage u probably spend more in petrol in a month then u do in tax for a year!

It's a 12 year old highly-strung two-stroke. Fuel economy is the least of my worries.

This is a fair point but IMHO fuel tax is one of the taxes that have always been far to high, particually on diesel which has such a wide ranging effect on the economy and inflation. Now that fuel is well over £1 /litre it might be time to bring it down a bit , just my view that all. |
