I try not to speed, you know, I tend to keep it to around about 70-80, but on my way home from work it just helps to burn stress on the long clear stretches of road. I can usually see police about and I keep my speeding to within a reasonable level because it's not nice to take the ****, really.

A75 between Castle Douglas and Springholm for anyone that knows the area. It's at the bottom of a long hill, wide open road (normal lane + crawler lane up the hill in the opposite direction) and there wasn't another car in sight. I feel sick to the core now, haven't been able to sleep since I got home either. If they decide to throw the book at me for this, which the courts down here have a reputaion for doing, then I'm screwed. Big time. I work 11 miles out of town, no buses etc. There's a very very likely case that without my license I could lose my job, that took me years and years of studying and working to get. All that for one quick blip of the throttle on my way home after a 100+ mile run. Sickening, yet it's only me to blame & I think that's probably the worst part of it all. |

No, I've got my full license (for now.....) so the bike's not restricted.

Is it 'possible' that I was doing 101? Yes, it's possible, in that my bike is capable and I was speeding, but seriously unlikely. |

So you were caught doing 40mph over the limit.
TBH, it all depends on how confident the officer was of his equipment. I know of some laser guns that require DAILY calibration, and as such, they're pretty much useless. I know of one specific gun that often says a cast iron gate is doing 30mph whilst mounted to the wall! I was stopped not that long ago for doing 59mph in a 40, 19mph over the limit. Anything over 16mph (IIRC) above the limit should result in a court appearence. But again, this is down to the officer largely. In my case, I was caught in rather thick fog from 400m away!! I knew full well that his "lock" wouldn't of been brilliant, but as soon as I saw him I knew I was getting stopped. So I slowed to let him catch up, then made it obvious I knew he was behind me, and pulled over where safe. I then had a nice chat with him, he showed me the laser results etc, took my licence, told me about some unmarked cars in the area (including number plates) & sent me on my way. I knew if it resulted in court action, I'd most likely have him over a barrel due to inaccurate hardware in poor visibility, so I was nice & polite. I got an SP30 (3 points £60 fine). Moral of the story: Know your ground for when you get stopped, and act accordingly. Did the officer say you'd be appearing in court, or just that you may "loose your licence"? Also, did you admit to the offence? |
