Default Re: Do you need proper bike gear for a 50cc?

I've just been talking to my brother, who came off his KTM on Wednesday night... He had on Suomy lid, Alpinestars jacket, gloves and boots, but he's doenst like wearing his textile trousers. So he had his work overalls on instead of proper bike kit trousers. ( he's a mechanic ) Bike got away from him on a bumpy road due to what sounds like the mother of all tankslappers under hard acceleration he remember the bars going lock to lock and he has bruised and sore wrists...

Result : His top half, his hands, his head shoulders etc are all good. His work overalls melted due to the abrasion of the tarmac on them and he now has what sounds like nasty gravel rash, with skin burns on top.

Its the 2nd time he's crashed without proper gear on his bottom half, the first time he was gravel rashed and cut up quite badly.

Trouble is you never know when this is going to happen, so its all very well saying "I'm only going to college"

Like you I reckon draggin jeans are good, but they are going to be miserable come winter when shes got cold and wet. But it also sounds like she needs to find out the hardway about this.

The Draggin jeans are OK, but if you want proper protection then you should go with the hood jeans.

Draggin jeans, let her find out for herself that they aren't waterproof.

Whats the difference between the draggin and the hood jeans and what makes the hood's better ?

Ouch that sounds painful, hope he heals quickly

Both times i've come off wearing jeans have been really close to home, last time was the end of my road which was about 100m from my drive.

It just seems a bit of a waste buuying draggin/hood jeans for them to be discarded cos they're too cold etc. I know they'll get used when it warms up but then there's the hassle of going to get some textiles

He says its healing, but he's still a bit sore, like I said to him, he's in one piece and it could have been alot worse. Also like he says he knows the risks and its his choice not to wear proper kit on his bottom half. He was talking to his work colleage on the same day about riding in proper leathers... ironic isnt it.

What about dragging jeans and then going to millets and getting some hiking waterproofs that she can slip on over the top on wet days. Might look a bit better than motorcycle styled stuff.

Have suggested the over trousers but she's not keen. The jacket is now a problem as the decent ones are a bit on the bulky side and make her shoulders look huge

Show her some pictures of low speed accidents. Then tell her not to be a muppet.
