I think your right. I wouldnt have felt comfy passsing my test and jumping on an R1. I'm sure I could ride it, but I'll be damned if i could have ridden it well.

I'd have a slightly better chance now. Still waiting for a go on my dads GSXR

Somehow, I don't think that's his concern......

Mum bought me an SR125 when I was 17. Clearly it turns out she didn't love me after all. I shall see her at the weekend and mention this to her. Of course, I forgive and forget and she can make good any time she wants

Now, I don't know tonnes of information about bikes, but when I first set out on my quest to get my licence and learn which bikes did what type of things (about 4 years ago now), I joined a uk bike forum and asked about the possibility of restricting a gsxr600, I was basically called some of the worst names and told I'd be a "F****** silly little ****er for restricting something like that".

This guy sounds like the good old "All the gear, no idea" type.

hmm this thread smacks of jelousy TBH.

Sure he is young dumb and full of cum so to speak , but he had done his test, served his restriction (more than some others on here) and now someone has bought him an R1.

Good on hm i say, i wish i had parnts who could have afforded to do that for me at his age.

Seems a lot of people are bitter he has a far beter bike than them at a young age!! rather than genuine concern for his saftey.

He may go and smash it up due to his immaturity, but the same could be said for a lot of people on here who do direct acces and get an SV at 21. I would go as far as to say he is better prepared than people like that as he has already had 2 years on an R6! and i dont think its mentioned he smashed that up is it?? Seems he may well respect bikes better than cars.

Grow up people, some one has something better than you so young, boo hoo!!

If I was 18 again and my friend was given a Bemmer and an R1 by their parents, I would be jealous. Now, I'm glad my parents didn't do things like that for me as I think I appreciate the value of money more. The impression given is that he is spoiled - maybe he's not.

I'm not concerned for his safety - lots of people buy large bikes when they are young and are fine with it. I do wonder though if he would appreciate it as much as if he had to save and buy it himself.

i think there may well be a bit of jealousy in this thread... But as many people have mentioned, working hard for the things we want in life has served us better than having them handed to us on a plate.

For me personally it's all about the journey. Maybe one day I'll ride a big gsxr or a ktm superduk or a harley or some other big bike, but I'm more focused on the learning to ride and appreciating what it takes to get upto the "big bikes". Being given one of the 'top' bikes to start off with, doesn't really leave you much room to grow and learn.

What do you move onto after an r1?

and as for razzing up and down the street. ****.

His track record doesn't sound too promising though. Just hope he can handle the R1, I would never wish death or injury on anyone.

Except maybe traffic wardens.
