I ride pretty quick, but never had the pegs or my toes down on the road when riding my K5S. It never happened on my naked K3 either.
Maybe I'm doing something right |

One of them ran out of ground clearance on his Pan Euro and ploughed through a hedge at about 80 - I reckon hanging off would have helped by keeping the bike more upright. He walked away with just bruises and we stood there appearing all concerned while we ripped the p1ss something rotten.
The other one went way too fast into a corner chasing a car, the corner tightened up and he ran out of road. His BMW made a nice big hole in a fence and the impact on the side of the brick built garage the other side of the fence was enough to rip the Telelever front end clean off his bike. He broke an arm and a leg |

I scraped the pegs on a track day cos I wasn't leaning off. There was plenty of grip around so it was ok. On the road, I have accidently scraped my toe once only, when I was fully laden and the bike tipped into a corner really strangely. I would think that if you are going fast enough on an sv to get your pegs down often on the road then you should hang off more or slow down, purely because you just can't rely on road surface as much as you would like.

I've seriously shortened the pegs on my wifes road NC35 by grinding them away round cadwell, they were quite folding up at that point too. That's just because they are too low though, I haven't got the pegs down on the track NC35 as they're both shorter and far higher.
Generally though if you're getting your pegs down you're not hanging off enough. I've touched a hero blob twice on my VFR in 40k and I don't exactly hang about... Druid
