Quick question the spark plugs and air filter have been in the bike for last 16k ( bike is now at 34k) , have been changing oil / filter every 4k , valve clearances were last checked ( no adjustment needed at 17k miles ) , bike is running great !
Do you recon I need to change plugs & air filter and get valve clearances done or is it ok to leave for another 4k as long as its running fine . It would be great if I could extend work till after Xmas Cheers Steve

I'm no expert here, however what does the service schedule say?
I would go from there, have you even checked the state of air filter and the plugs? |

I'd check the clearances. Leave the rest of it.

But a tight valve clearance can lead to unpleasantness

shim under bucket tends to get tighter, never heard of them getting loose
skipping valve clearance inspection is NOT something I would recommend, by the time it affects your running, it's too late, and you will need more than adjustment tight valves will burn the seats, and possibly the valve stems, next thing you know, stems will weaken and break something I have noticed, following the owners manual, plugs & carb/throttle body sync, clean air filter every 7500 miles... as good as I thought it was running, it always ran better after and the most significant difference in running is instantanous starts you bike, do as you wish, but I think you will be happier if you do recommended routine mantenance on schedule |

We haven't heard from you for a while, RandyO!
I'm curious as to how many miles you have on the SV now, and if you've had any major problems. regards, Oldie |
