Calling them cakes could have just been a marketing ploy to make them appear better than the average biscuit.

I regard them as posh biscuits.

That my dear is clearly Gateaux!!! Black forest gateaux..all the same its rather tasty!!!

Now then how many jaffa cakes can you lot eat in one sitting....I ate a whole pack to myself this aft....then me wonders why I have a big headache.....but cakes and chocolate is the only thing my poorly tummy will accept this weekend.....what a shame

Well the pack itself was a triple pack...but I ate one of them....could have eaten more but then I;d have had to admit to my son there were more...and I'm mean...lol

However in 1991 Mcvities were taken to court by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise for evading the VAT you have to pay on chocolate biscuits, but not on cakes.

To prove it they made a giant jaffa cake to prove it turned hard when stale, and therefore was a cake

Mcvities won the case
