Default Exhaust cleaning tips?

My previously gleaming Viper can is getting a bit tarnished looking. I haven't had the old girl out at all over the winter, but I still have spots of something appearing and spreading on the can. I tried some Halfords chrome and aluminium cleaner on it but it made no discernable difference.

It's the chrome can I'm talking about - the downpipe I gave up on last year

What do you do to get your chrome back to showroom spec?

Any tips please?

Autosol, patience, a beer, something slightly entertaining on the telly, patience and a rag.

I got a grubby can on eBay and must've spent 4 hours on it. Looks better than new now! (took nasty stickers off it too). Ultimately though if rust has gone through the chrome you won't get it back.

Autosol. The colour is there (AFAIK!) from being heated as opposed to beig coloured so it should be fine. Might be worth checking on an inconspicous area first though.

Autosol to get the bad stuff off. The can I spoke about earlier is titanium which has a dull finish. If you just polish, polish, polish it takes off the poo and then use some brake cleaner or solvent to get rid of fingerprints or water marks. Titanium's a bugger to keep clean.

Get Kwak round for a brew & show him your pipe. Just leave some Autosol & wire wool lying around by the bike & hey presto, clean exhaust

Seriously, if you use a lot of elbow grease & Autosol, your exhaust will look like new. Put Autosol on wire wool to attack the downpipe & you will be amazed how good it can look.
