There is a country wide speed/checking thingy going on just now.
If you don't have the cash to pay the fine, you will be made to walk to the closeist money machine and walk back. And the cops will not give you a ride.

Exactly. Much better once you get inland a bit, Suisse Normande and into Brittany. Of course the really good roads tend to be a lot further away, Massif Central etc, but not much use for a 3 day visit.

One thing, gt caught much more than 30kph over the speed limits and its a massive fine for you.....if you cant pay it on the spot your vehicle gets taken and you get given a caught date where you need to reyurn to france.

The is a post on pistonheads at the moment where several people had cars/bikes taken during the lemans week last year.

all I'll say is don't ride like a kn0b and you'll be fine. Ridden over there, its great. My best mates live over in Tonnay. If you get pulled, do as your told, the gendarmes don't take any **** full stop.

I've only been the once, rode to see her, its down Bordeaux way, the coast is lovely and I recommend heading down to Fort Boyard, if you feel confident. You can't get onto the fort, but the roads and scenery is absolutely wonderful, as is the local seafood....a must! mmmmmmmm
