I had a set of Road Attacks and loved them on my 99 SV650s...
Now I have a 06 SV650s with about 6000km on the stock D220 turd-circles... my god these are a terrible tire... they are a squarish profile and slick... not to mention they take ages to warm up and corner like pigs Anyway... I am thinking of tossing out these D220s and putting on new tires and have pretty much narrowed it down to the RoadSmart or the Road Attack... I like hard cornering, but most of my riding is in town or scenic highway rides around the city... I don't do lots of straight line miles though for the most part. I want it to take a hard power corner without sliding out on me and I want to be able to be comfortable leaning deep into a turn... Of course I know how both rate in the wet and I hear the RoadSmart edges out the conti there... but I don't often get much into rain riding However in Canada we get some cold temps in the fall and summer before I have to put the bike away for the snow season... so I need something that sticks even when the tire is cold... The Conti Road attacks I had were great for that even at -5C So given that and similar price point (negligible difference in cost) which do you think I would be happier going with? Mine warm up really quick and stick well even in the damp. Very predictable and confidence inspiring. I doubt I'll ever look at another tyre myself. |

Yes I also thought about the sport attack but I hear they don't get the same kind of miles as the Road Attack.... longevity is another factor I'd consider... even though it is not a major factor in my Roadsmart vs Road Attack debate... As is road gravel since I ride as much as I can when the roads are dry in the winter... I'd imagine with the tread pattern the RoadSmart is better than the Road Attack... but wonder if the Sport attack has the same kind of traction on gravel as the Road attack... it doesn't look like the sport attack has as deep and big of grooves as the Road Attack Last edited by Zokambaa; 30-08-09 at 11:17 AM. |

They look exactly the same.
Its the compound thats different. I have an old road attack here and the sport is on the bike at the moment. If you were to put them side by side you couldnt tell the difference. There is always a trade off between miles and grip. It just depends which one you want more of! |

![]() ![]() ![]() Conti sport and Road attack and Dunlop RoadSmart I could consider the Sport attack if it would not square off quickly and get more than 5000 miles like the road attack did for me... edit: or would have done for me... it looked new with 2500km on it and could still read the conti stamp in it before I was hit by that car and lost the bike Last edited by Zokambaa; 30-08-09 at 11:57 AM. |
