so - what time can Imake a noise until.. neighbour angry

very simply-
been doin lots of DIY .. most of the day .. last 2 weeks.. bt of banging and drilling and some on party wall..

layed a floor and wallpapered.. nothing major noisy ..


was knocking in some cable clips at 7.30 and the neighbour was banging on the wall like an insane man ! ..


7.30 !! its cos its dark I thinkand he thinks its midnight.. he is an idiot- about 70 and retired and nothing better to do.

we are bloody good neighbours- no wild parties. not lots of bikers round all the time.. very understanding- I think he is going crazy and needs medical help.

but what is the legal standpoint .. anyone know?

I don't know about legal but I've always taken 9pm to be the limit, having a quick google seems to agree with me that there is no limit as per se but more what is reasonable, this page seems to sum it up.

Quiff, as long as it's kindof a reasonable time and you don't do it all the time, I think you will be ok. I certainly wouldn't be taking any action against you.

It's a frequent thing. People forget that their neighbours need to have a life and they forget the whole give and take.

As long as you don't do it every night and are not hammering things into the wall until stupid o'clock then I say hammer on.

he is a nob the neighbour- I really feel like drilling the wall at 2am.. or inviting 20 bikers round every weekend.. .. Imean, 7.30 and he is banging like a demented idiot on the wall

7:30 should be ok, I'd have thought 9 or 10 and then you should be quieter.

its not every day--

these things are sequential.. there is an order.. like now I have floored n papered and painted then the skirting boards will be on tommora which means my mitre saw so he will kickoff about that no doubt.. often Ihave to wait on a decision from mand before firmly fixing anything- which means she needs the visual, which means waiting til she home from work at 5pm..which means its 6 to 7pm before I am drilling etc. but I always stop at 8.30 if making noise at night..

My mother got grief when she moved into her new house some years ago because the carpet fitters were making a noise at 10:30 am on a midweek day. He objected to the hammering to fit the gripper rod and demanded they stop.

He verbally abused my mother and was most apologetic when her 4 sons knocked on his door that evening and suggested he might like to get on with his new neighbour
