FWIW i think you did what any of us would do and that was try to save your mate getting a serious kicking...weather he deserved it or not is a different matter.

i ran into a crowd of guys once, bellowing at the top of my voice "alright, enough...let me give this ( insert many racist expletives) a proper kicking outside", reached into the crowd and dragged the guy up by his hair and out thru the front door with a large baying mob following us out.

Stood him up straight, looked him in the eye and screamed "RUN Charlie, RUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!" as i dragged him off up the road with me.
We hid in a shop's metal wheelie bin round the next corner, it stank and Charlie bled on me a lot but i got him out of a jam. I only knew Charlie by face and name cos he was a friends older brother but a pub full of hooligans on one person aint exactly a fair fight is it?

And the 7 stitches i got in my lip was cos i stood up to some bloke who was gonna hit a girl and i told him that if he was that hard as to beat up a girl then maybe he should try me out for size.
1 punch later, there i am on the floor needing stitches Ah well, again, at least i did the right thing by her.

FWIW I cant see that you did anything wrong given the situation your mate got you in.The trick is to avoid letting it happen by sorting your mate out before he gets out of order with an army of thugs.

Personally, I didn't think you were bragging, at all .

I've been in a situation where I had to pull an idiot of a mate away from what had the potential to turn really bad.

I was just lucky that the group of blokes, for some reason listened to me as I told him what a 'so and so' he was and dragged him off.

Funnily enough, I stopped going out with said mate...and told him to sod off... after he had a few too many another time and did a similar thing.

My idea of a good night out doesn't involve fighting and can't stand people who have a drink and become stupid.

Well Spidey, your still my favourite super hero after jessica albas character in fantastic four.

All the scraps i have had in my adult life have been as a result of someone else, except when playing sunday football when i used to lose my fooking mind for some reason.
I avoid trouble generally because there is always someone more talented, aggressive, voilent etc who will always go too far and could be end more serious than a cut lip or whatever.

Thulfi, i'm on your side here dude, you helped your mate when he needed it unconditionally, that takes balls.

As someone still struggling to breath properly after being attacked in a boozer, I have to say I am not impressed by those who throw that first unwarranted punch. I used to think I could handle myself well enough until I found out that some people fight dirty. I then remembered the old adage of do unto others as they would do unto you. But do it first. My mistake in remembering far too late.

There is nothing big or clever about pub fighting. It is bloody dangerous. I am waiting to go to court to give evidence against the guy who attacked me. My brother is currently bailed for GBH after landing on top of the guy who tried to pull him down a flight of stairs in a boozer. We were both victims of pub violence fortunately in my case the guy who hit me was arrested, in my brothers case they guys who attacked him are giving evidence against him.

There are no winners in pub scraps. I have learned one valuable lesson. When trouble breaks out, leave by the back door.
