I had one as a work horse,2.0 diesel 129k serviced regularly and the only fault in that time was the wire broke in an electric window mechanism--agree with the mpg 45+.
Sold it to my nephew who has had it for 2years and it sailed through its last MOT.
Obviously normal wear and tear, tyres, wipers, brakes etc as per every car,I believe it is now on 150+kmiles and still going strong IMHO value for money and loads about but do not go for the newer 1.6 diesel

tbh picassos arent bad at all really, although they seem to develop problems with age rather than mileage (within reason).
a few things to look out for if you look at one apart from the usual stuff is first the dash/ general interior electrics, make sure it all works ok, especially the right hand dash display with time/date and radio info, seen quite a few duff ones, oh and aftermarket stereos usually dont work off the steering wheel controls either (same on most cars but worth checking).
another thing is the clutch, citroens and peugots clutches can become very heavy, they still work ok but youll have a numb left leg in traffic in a couple of minutes, also check for noise when working the clutch pedal because the diesels will more than likely have a dual mass flywheel which are about 4-500 quid.
engine wise just have a listen for any whining or rumbling from the belts, auxillary guide pulleys and waterpumps can be fairly common faults.
and whatever you do dont buy a renault, they are the worst french cars by far!!

The HDI engines developed by PSA Peugeot Citroen and Ford are also used in Ford group vehicles, so that also includes Ford (badged TDCI), Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo and Mazda. An HDI engine was also used in the Mini Cooper D. There is therefore a huge number of HDI engines on the road so reliability is well proven.
