Bummer. Without looking it up, I think broken white lines are fair game, solid ones aren't. From the looks of the photo, and the fact that they've got a live operator on it, they've set that up as a cash-trap. Which makes it suck twice as bad

It is a £120 fine that is reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. I would have thought that rule 129 of the highway code would have applied, as the traffic was not moving:

"You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less."

It was not a dangerous manouvre as there was no oncoming traffic.
yup sorry buddy but if that the island your on about and you have gone round the outside then you have committed the offence.

well two offences really......the solid lines at the directional arrow.

still a bit steap though £120.......buts it the council so hey ho......

I am a traffic cop buddy so in my opinion i wouldnt bother contesting it. you may find a loop hole but if you loose the fine will just increase.

at least there is no points going on ya licence

Since when could a council impose a penalty like this? If it's a road traffic offence, surely they wouldn't have the power?

That's what I thought until recently, but it seems in the London area councils are doing the enforcement. They can only fine, not endorse.

Your not wrong there. its a load of nonsense. i can only comment on greater manchester but yes they have started doing more and more up here too however i have never heard them doing offences like this.
we no longer deal with parking offences, that has now been completely taken over by the council. they have also starting dealing with mobile phone and bus lane offences too.

there fines are stupid amounts though

If you log on to pay the fine, you can view the photos before you accept liability.

If you want to appeal then I'd do it quickly to avoid the 'discount' mothod of extortion they favour.

Having moved from Manchester to here, I promise you Manchester is tame in comparison! I had two tickets in my first day down here

I have been done for the exact same thing, same road and everything the annoying thing is I have got caught 3 times, and therefore have 3 of them. Is there any way I can get 2 rescinded and just pay one. I know ignorance is no excuse, however quite simply I didnt think it was an offence which would incur a penalty.
