Slime stuff! Puncture prevention.

you know that stuff you pop in tyres so you can drive over a bed of nails and never have to plug ur tyre? is it any good?

I believe that tyre fitters dislike the stuff for obvious reasons.

Personally, I wouldn't trust it; limp home maybe, but no form of permanent solution.

tyre weld stuff?

When I had a flat the AA guy found the little hole in my tyre and used a bmw tyre repair kit to temporarily plug it.. No more than 50mph but it did the trick and he was able to inflate it enough for me to carry on the 3 miles to woosters where I was heading anyway

na not tyre weld. but stuff that sits in your wheel all the time.

I had the pink goopy stuff (UltraSeal?) and got a puncture waaaaay smaller than the bottle claimed it could cope with. The puncture was easy to spot - it was where the pink stuff squirted out. I put slime (the green stuff) into the next two sets of tyres and didn't get a puncture so I can't say whether it worked or not.

My mechanic did issue me a death threat after the storeman "forgot to tell him" there was slime in there when he swapped out the last pair - been too scared to use it since

I used the blue slime, looked like coagulated blood tbh, and i found that it was only really useful for sealing it for a few miles after the puncture.

Thats one pro for it,
the cons are it can unbalance your wheel and increase wear and tear on the chain,
conceal a puncture if a blowout occurs during wet weather so you're none the wiser

In my opinion (and my garage's opinion)
you are far better off knowing you have a puncture in the first place, the slime will hardly ever seal it and make it SAFE. So if you're fast riding and a second blowout occurs, can be fatal due to the massive pressure decrease over a short period of time (leaking from 2 holes instead of just 1).

Go without is my verdict. Better to know you have a puncture first time round, and its safer.
I agree with Simesb - limp home if you have to.

OK for cars, no good for bikes. Half a kilo of slop in each tyre does wonders for stuffing up handling!

Used the green slime from halfords twice worked ok.found it better to park overnight with hole at bottom.Told tyre fitters when changing said no problem if they are told,

I've used the green Slime for years on all my bikes and never had a puncture or a problem with it. That includes thousands of miles all over Europe, up and down mountains and at speeds of over 100mph (on private roads of course). It's never put my wheels out of balance, mostly I think because as the wheel spins it distributes itself fairly evenly around the inside of the tyre. Others may disagree but that's been my experience with the stuff.

Will happily put slime in my tyres (and have done before) if I get a slow puncture and I am able to remove what ever caused it (or at least ensured its no longer in the tyre). If its a proper hole then chances are I would just swap the tyre depending on how long its been in use.

As for Ultra Seal, heard good and bad about it but as has been mentioned by others, I would much rather know theres a hole there in the first place rather than find out there were multiple holes at a later date
