We do have the right not to be in a published photograph whether it is taken in public or not.

A photographer is supposed to obtain an image release before putting the photograph up for publication. Individuals also have image rights.

Its not illegal to take the photograph but it is illegal to publish it without permission. Its not something that is often enforced, especially as after the fact you can't unpublish it.

Not true. If you are in a place with no expectation of privacy (a street crowd for instance, or street performing) then no release is necessary.

I'll tell you what lads. I'm going to confiscate your bike. Right now ...What for? ... erm ... I don't need a reason, I AM the law. We're getting it taken away on a lorry, on suspicion of terrorism. Yeah. Argue and I'll give you a section 5 too. Well you shouldn't have tried to ride it in public you know. Terrorism and beards an that.

The first thing the policeman said was 'you can't take pictures of kids'. Not 'could you please move along, you're in the way'.

Habeas corpus has never taken such a hit, as since the turn of the century.

As above. You don't need to sign release forms if you're in a public space.

I dont disagree with your sentiments but the point remains----It does go with the territory in many occupations including mine.I dont like it either and it can have some very unfortunate consequences but our only option to avoid it is quit.Indeed the plumbers themselves are very vulnerable to being identified and victimised away from the workplace.

If you don't want to be seen as in the army. Don't put your uniform on and march down the street with a platoon, trumpets, drums, fanfares on frickin armed forces day!

Why the f**king hell should he?

He wasn't breaking the law, and as such the officers had no right to harrass him the way they did. So the kid knows the law - good for him, which is more than can be said of the Met officers who detained him and then tried to pin a false charge of breach of the peace on him when he instnctively swore after being pushed down steps - that was disgusting behaviour on the part of the police. I don't think he was being a gobby PITA, I think he was reasonable and obviously knew more about the law than the officers did, maybe they just didn't like the fact he was obviously more intelligent.

We don't live in a police state, yet, so why should this lad be forced to comply with spurious attempts to stop him filming legally by these specific police officers, who need to go back and do some basic training on how to deal efficiently with the public, and also to learn something about the laws they are paid a fairly good chunk of my taxes to enforce.

Please don't get me wrong, I like the police in general and think they do a difficult and thankless job, but when I see things like this it really makes me wonder why more officers like this aren't seriously disciplined when situations like this come to light. I'd be very interested to see if any of those officers involved were properly disciplined in any way.
