What Shock To Go For?

nice one Seggons. but there was a post on the forum a while back about someone who got a 'piggyback' Nitron shock for a pointy and had to send it back as it was hitting the battery box. they might have sorted it now though.

anyway enjoy twiddling with your knobs when you get it and report back with your views.

I did ask about that issue and this is the response I got.

"We have adjusted the Piggy back location of our SV range, however some
adjustment on your bike may still be required. As you are aware, the close
proximity of the bodywork, swing arm and most importantly the chain result
in a necessary physical compromise that all manufactures have to deal with."

So it does look as if some cutting maybe required still.

How can you adjust the chain and swingarm though... glad to see your getting the bike how you want it though

That's the route I went down, then realised that the Hagon springs are a poor subsitute. I splashed out the money to get emulators fitted and springs and oil set up for me.

The Nitron, is very good, but it will quickly highlight how bad the front end is.

gsxr front end? half the price of the shiny new shock too... and would surely compliment it best?

I really have been contemplating a gixxer front end but to me it's not an SV any more once that's done. I like the look of the SV and am aiming to keep it looking as standard as possible. The Hagon springs are about as far as my budget goes currently because I've also brought a new can and will be putting braided lines on her. Maybe later on in the year if things keep going well I might reconsider a gixxer front end or other alternatives.

If you've spent that much money on the rear, I'd consider spending a fraction of that on the front and getting cartridge emulators as well as new springs and oil. I had a ZX10R shock on the back, with new springs and oil in the front, but the shock still showed up the limitations of the damper rods in the forks.

I feel the same way, I kind of like the stealth "standard" look which is why I'm going for GSXR600 K1 forks which are RWU so will look very similar to standard. Will be selling set of pointy forks with emulators and uprated springs installed when I have collected all the GSXR bits together.

The issue I have currently is budget. The choice I have is Hagon springs and oil or stick with what I have and save. Considering the bikes done 30k miles you can imagine what the front end must be like. I'd rather stick the Hagon's in, run it to see how the bike feels and if it doesn't feel great then I'll decide between emulators and a gixxer frontend.
