I cant stop thinking how much I want a mid-late`90s ducati ss750 or 900

Keep seeing reviews in mags, bikes for sale for sv money.. help me is there medication I can take to stop these thoughts.

If it wasnt for being away from biking for 9 years, I would have been very tempted instead of buying an sv, but thought play it safe with a user friendly bike, and something hopefully less fraught with danger than a fragile `90s italian.

anyone here owned one, how do they compare with an sv650, apart from sounding

I have a friend who has a 900 SS, can tell you now its far cheaper to keep up with that fragile one, than his S4R!

bro has a 1996 750ss and they are ermm well nice. they are not fast by today's standards but they have a certain character that just makes you want to ride it. the electrics are fine on them but the starter solenoid are troublesome but a yamaha one fits and they are about £20. the suspension is soft and not adjustable on the front. nice riding position and feels just right. emulsion tubes/needles go very quickly on them but are cheep to replace. another thing to note is that strangely there is no spec for the amount of oil for an oil and filter change its a case of fill with appropriate amount let settle and top up let settle and top up yada yada. if you do get one make sure that it has the carb heaters fitted, these use the engine oil and can be turned off via an in line tap. dont be put off by the belts as they are a pice of poo to do as is the desmo valves. watch out for rusty tanks as the rubber pipe burst letting water into the tank.

all in all nice weekend bikes and easy to work on.

i would have one but i prefer the SV. but i do like taking my bro's out for a little blast

Thanks for the replies, nothing bad there then really. I daily commute from generally march to late october, only 4 miles across town each way, not much in the way of traffic que`s, but Ive heard they`re not nice in town due to the turning circle.

Not bothered about outright performance, more into smiles on twisties, the suspension cant be any worse than a curvy sv though??

I keep imagining the ss is simply a nicer sounding, better looking, better handling sv, and they have few more horsies than the sv, just enough more, but I can only really have 1 bike.

I love the sv, and if funds were better, keep it and buy an ss, but just want that little bit more something from my sv which it cant give.

The servicing, mainly belt services does concern me, although I only ride about 3k miles a year, so shouldnt be too often.

aaahhh yes the turning circle, its ermm non existent. its like half of the sv.

suspension is better than sv as its cartridge.

keep your sv. the duke is ok for a weekend blast but i wouldn't use it daily.
