In life there are good people and there are bad people, and the same applies in motorcycling. I don't know those other people who are going the other way - one of them could be the scrote who nicked my mates bike last week, they could be a child molester or rapist. I don't know these people from Adam, and just because they ride a bike does not make them my friend or make me want to say hello to them. I see enough of them in the bike shop I work in to know that a fair few of them are feverishly practising Guy Martin's favourite bed game.

I accept there is a brotherhood amongst motorcyclists, and that we all sing from the same hymn sheet on certain issues, but lets get some perspective on this... I hate BMWs and Harleys because quite frankly both makes are crap, I really don't want to be seen nodding to riders of either type of bike because I have only slightly more respect for them than I do child molesters and rapists because of the terrible decision they made when choosing a new bike.

If you hadn't already guessed, I don't do the nodding thing.

On my way home from work the other night I had a scooter rider nod to me and it gave me a feeling I haven't had in years, I wanted to turn round and follow him then force him into a ditch. How dare he associate himself with me?

Bah humbug.

You saw him nod from all the way up there on your high horse?!

It all comes down to etiquette I suppose. I'd say in any aspect of life, it's generally good to acknowledge someone back if they did so in a kind hearted manner first. Whether you initiate a nod or not is another thing.

Do you keep the door held open for old grannys? They might not deserve it if they molested little boys back in the day

That's the Lozzo we all know and love.
He is a miserable git! (and wind up artist)

I always nod (or wave) to all bikes and really old blokes on scooters.
(hope I'm still riding at 80+ years old)
I have to laugh when not acknowledged by others.
Don't want to be one of us? Fine.
Simply means they are not real bikers, chav's , or old miserable gits.

Comes from the days when bikes were rarely seen on the roads so when you came across another like minded person you waved/nodded, you soon found out who your friends where when you found yourself at the side of the road with a very dead machine, cage drivers would very rarely stop cause all bikers were greasy rockers as far as they were concerned.

Think you still see riders acknowledging each other up here cause they know there is more chance of needing some sort of help when you find one of the several mobile phone dead spots in the Highlands

I do try to nod to as many riders as i can, even scooter boys if they are wearing proper kit as they could be future big bike riders. I shake my head to all riders wearing vests, shorts and trainers though. There choice i know but just seems a bit daft to me. I rarely get a return nod from the harley lot! Also if i see a lone biker stopped i do the thumbs up at them just to make sure all's ok and they dont need help.
