22K is the starting wage right??

I know a handful of teachers - unless they are lying to me, they all earn a significant amount more than this - one of them above 60k, one of them around 45k all of them above 32k.

Using that as a basis, prospects seem pretty good to me, way above average private industry at the moment.

Does that then mean parents shouldn't work in case the school suddenly has to close, Schools are as good as daycare centres in term time hence the reason parents go back to work once kids are at school. For example plans are made for school holidays as we know school will be closed etc. I agree with Reeder they shouldn't make such a fuss and just get on with it.

BTW I have much respect for teachers and the job they do I can understand how difficult it can be.

Pretty much - your kid, your responsibility if something goes wrong with the "daycare", its up to you at your expense to sort it out.

Being a teacher - Your job, your problem.
Shouldn't cost everyone else money just because something has gone wrong for you.

That's all
Our none striking union plans to go out in september if negotitations fail. So she will be striking then. IMO I believe the other unions have jumped the gun slightly on this one, but nevermind. I don't want to be teaching till i'm 66 and also the reason all this is happening now is that we have no money to pay todays pensions as those silly labourists spent all of it during the good times.

The only thing raising retirement age will do is kill more teachers when they retire, simples. We've also had a 2 year pay freeze and if pension contributions go up we'll be actually earning less next year than this year. If you have kids I don't think you should teacher bash too much, you may struggle with one or two. I have to deal with 30 at a time for about £10 an hour in real terms.
