Congrats!

Not a Grumps, I'm a cheery sort with the kids. I'll be known as Grandadish, because Jess is my ex-nearly-step-daughter. In short, I inherited her after her real dad died but never actually married her mum, then we split. I've always treated her and her siblings as I would my own though, even after I left, hence she's my 'daughter' and she calls me her 'dad'.

Awww, some times Lozzo you come across as so lovely, I could just cuddle you! Congrats on the new baby, I am sure that you will love being a Grandfather, all the joy of children, none of the pooh filled nappies! Hugs to Grandad. XXX

My Granpa isn't actually my mums dad but she always says "Anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a Dad."

I believe that too MBK, but that line was never used with our kids because we never wanted to undermine the love the kids have for their real dad. Instead we used to say that parents will always love their kids because they are their own kids, but I'd chosen to love them so that made them extra special.

Oh yeh! I get that, didn't mean to undermine their real dad! Diff circumstances. I like your way of describing it.

I know what you meant to be saying, and in other circumstances I'd be quite happy using it. Took me ages to think of a nice way of putting what I meant to say to the kids without making it sound like their own dad didn't care, because everyone knew he was actually a bloody good dad.

One day a little while after we'd started going out, my ex's mum said something like "What would Mark say if he was here now?" to which I replied "Probably something like 'Laurie, will you please stop sleeping with my wife now' ". It kinda broke the ice.
