Dont mock, I own an iPad.
It's the first one and until the other day, worked exactly as I wanted it to. Then, son of mine wanted to watch the Smurfs movie, which has an app that allows the iPad to interact with the movie. I had to update the iOS to 5.0.1 to use the app. Since then, the iPad has become really frustrating. It crashes, shuts down safari and typing can slow down to tectonic speeds. I've googled it and it's a real problem. What I want to do is revert to the older iOS. There are many threads on the web with all sorts of ways of doing it, but as I'm only a very basic iOS user (the iPad is our only apple product) I've no idea if these methods work or if I will kill my iPad. Can someone who KNOWS how to do such a thing give me a point towards a reliable method of reverting the iOS or give me a simple guide to doing it! Thank-you. Pete ![]() |

I dont think you can, without getting involved in jailbreaking...

You can only revert back to a previous iOS version if you have jailbroken and backed up your SSH Blobs before you updated to the new OS.
The only other way without SSH blobs is within a small time window when apple is still signing the previous os but this is usually only within 24 hours of a new OS release. I would restore the ipad back to factory settings and then reload with the new iOS see if that helps.

Make sure you back up all your pictures & any other content which is on the iPad but not already saved on another device before doing this! Restoring the iPad back to factory: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414 is quite a common part of the trouble shooting process for iOS devices pete, when my iPhone started acting up last year the internet basically said to restore to factory settings, then restore to the 'back up' of my phone as it was at the time (with all my contacts & pictures & messages etc.) ![]()

As per Hongman, don't think you can without Jailbreaking. My only suggestion would be a trip to an apple store to see if they can suggest something. I don't know if there would be a way to fully reset it to how it came out of the box - then do a clean install of ios5 and then re-add all the apps etc.

My iPad2 is on 5.0.1 with no problems so I would try doing what the others have said and doing a clean install BUT make sure you back up all your data first with iTunes.
To do a completely clean install/restore and use whatever firmware you want to use watch this Restore iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch the various previous and latest iOS firmware versions are here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ Last edited by 1210tech; 11-01-12 at 05:22 PM. |

If it's a new version of iOS (just released) and it's a known issue, I assume Apple will patch it and fix it. If so, you could hang on for the update. Just speculating though.

I've followed the YouTube link 1210tech posted, it seems simple enough.
However, Once the relevent 4.2.1 ios (what my ipad used to have) has been downloaded, it's a zip file. When I unzip it, I get a nessage saying it can't copy some of the files with encryption. Then, the browser in Itunes won't "see" the required file to start uploading the new ios. Pete |
