Anyhoo,

I renamed the file, iTunes recognises it, but I've got an error message. There is a mahoosive list of checks to go through, but I can't be bothered tonight. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Typical apple though, constant updates slowing the machine down so you have / want to get the updated one every year so it will be quick again.

Since SK let you down I know it can be done on the iPhone so I assume it's possible on the iPad. If you update again but instead of getting the update file from the web you need to find the old update file which will be available somewhere. If I remember correctly I had to download via google chrome because it downloads as a zip on IE which it actually isn't.

That's all a bit vague isn't it? But there's a ray of hope for you at least. When I was playing with these things i always used to use the IPhone dev team site that's we're I'd hunt for the solution.

All hardware slows down as you fill it with content & updates, thats why its better to do a clean install when updating. I keep telling you this but you won't listen
