What he said, besides as someone else has also said you can check yourself on AskMID.com. The most common reason for an insured vehicle not being on the MID is a typo by the person inputting the data. If your vehicle isn't on there (ie: your check comes back red) then ring/email your insurance provider and tell them to resend the data.

To be honest it's a load of old crap. One of my old Bandits ran out of insurance in February and was still showing 90 days later as insured. I know it wasn't as it was off the road until July called CIA and told me they will have to send the information to MID as they only do it every 90 days!!!!!

As a claims handler, I access the MID daily. We update the MID weekly with details of the vehicles we insure. A reg. only comes off the database when the insurer does their update. There are two main reasons why an insured vehicle isn't on there; it's either on a fleet policy where individual reg numbers are not recorded (not usual for bikes) or the insurer has cocked up their update.

I had a typeo of two numbers being transposed, only found out when I couldn't tax the bike on line and took the paperwork to the post office. The guy behind the counter pointed out the mistake but could see it was an error and handed over the disc, telling me best get if fixed before the boys in blue notice.

A quick on line change with ebike and all was well.

Default Insurance database errors?

I had one of these letters.
I'm sure it just says the MID have no current record of the vehicle and advises you speak to insurers otherwise it's possible the cops will pull you.

The letter says you WILL get a fine if your vehicle does not appear on the MID.Its a bit vague about whether you will have to pay that fine if it turns out you had insurance all along. The way these fixed penalties are dolled out these days it wouldnt surprise me if you are considered guilty anyway.

Good morning all.

I guess you must have been unlucky to have received a letter from the MID.
A few years ago my Insurance broker had a blonde moment, & forgot to enter my details on the MID. It was only some 6 months after renewal that it showed up when I went to tax my bike & my van. I don't use my bike much, but my van had been used almost daily, & all over the place at that. I never heard a thing from any official body, or got stopped by the Police.

Cheers.
