Wow, that could have gone so much messier.
At least he didn't mark his knee sliders

He's a lucky fella there. Glad to see him up and about after that.

From the video you can see right away his line is all wrong there. He's turned in too early and not realised the corner has tightened up on him. Rather then lean the bike over more and hold the throttle steady to make the turn,he's panicked, got on the brakes and that's stood the bike up. The result he's ridden straight on over the banking as that's where his eyes and mind where focused on.

Yes but it's all very easy to spot the errors in hind sight.
Actually doing it in real life. That's the breaker.
And yes I ve done just as stupid things, even quite recently

Yeah think that would be a common trait. So long as you know the leaders style and pace is near enough to yours.

I live right next to the cat and fiddle.

Its amazing how many people come from out of town and never expect a corner to tighten up.

I was waiting for him to back off the throtle on the straight (knowing the road very well) but then he didnt...and turned in far too early aha.

Not to mention all the overtaking opportunities before hand, then he decided to overtake on solid whites.

Not very impressive riding imo.

What are peoples thoughts on overtaking on solid white lines?
I was under the impression it's a full stop never. Although when on a bike, the time gap you need is loads smaller than a car obviously.
So I think when this guy over takes his mate, that was fine? He had plenty of time to bring the bike back in, he wasn't redlining or pushing
the limit and visibility was good.
I have done it once when I was on the A623 in the peak district, car was doing 40 and I feel it was as safe to overtake as any other time.

So, what are your thoughts?
I do have a lot of respect for what the roads telling you, ie. solid white lines, big slow signs, sharp bend signs etc. I'll always ease off a bit.

Not that I'd attempt to ride like the guy in the video. Didn't seem to have any discipline.

Personally, i never overtake on them. Although like you say, it sometimes is safe to do so. I just dont fancy the points if the wrong person see's me aha.

My mate does it occasionally in his nissan GTR. Its by no means dangerous in some places. Infact sometimes its much safer than where there isnt a solid white line but isnt much space or hazards. He prefers to make his own mind up. Hes past in no time anyway. Faster than some bikes infact, n defo faster than an SV.

Depends on if you like getting points & a fine.

Personally I don't, no one (in my opinion) is worth over taking that much & my journey isn't so important I need to make up 20 seconds . . . .

I can't say there are never occasions when overtaking on solid whites seems OK, especially if overtaking another bike as you can usually stay in or very close to the same lane, but I rarely do these days, usually because I don't want to annoy other road users. But this guy had already overtaken before the corner and whether solid or broken line, I bet his road position would have been the same.

I always found being completely off the throttle helps the bike turn tighter if higher revs as the engine braking will pull you in (not cruising). More (gentle) throttle only helps if you are low revs or are a riding God and can spin the back up to square the corner Pedrosa style.

Watching the video again, if he had dropped a gear before entering that corner he might have been OK. Lesson learned though and glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been
