I consistently get less miles to a tank on the SV using my local Morrisons fuel as opposed to BP/Shell - usually around 10 miles less a tank.

Very low grade petrol

Could be poor MON rating, it's a modern FI car so they increase the richness if the octane number is low. A few years back it was fine, but whatever they sell now... it may be 2p a litre cheaper than the local Jet but that's 2% price saving for 10% less mpg!

Almost all our stations in the U.S. sell that 10% ethanol crap. You will see reduced mpg.
Turning food into fuel (most of our fuel ethanol is made from corn), what a stupid idea.

Also ethanol is great at attracting water out the atmosphere to rust your tank and cause carb/injector problems if you leave your bike standing for long enough. Doubly stupid idea . . .

It looks like I'll be adding methylated spirit to the tank

Why add more ethanol? (it's what methylated spirit is) or do you mean isopropanol to improve miscibility of the water?

This thread got me some free fuel!

Maybe should explain that further! I read this yesterday, mainly about cheap supermarket fuel being rubbish. So last night instead of going to ASDA I dropped into the Esso garage. I then decided to get the super unleaded. The pump took a bit to get going. As I was filling the lady from the shop came over to ask if it was working okay as it wasn't registering at her end. Cue me looking at display on the pump to see it was still reading 0 for litres and cost, as I sneakily made sure I kept it going and brimmed it. She then said she couldn't charge me as they would have no idea what I put in (about 15 litres in all) and I could just head off. Shame!

Cheers chaps
