Default HELP ! Regulator Rectifier

I was out on my Sv today and as I approached a set of traffic lights the bike died! I pulled the clutch in and pressed the start button and the dash lights just dimmed as if it was flat. I pulled off the road to have a look to which I found an awful burning smell of plastic. I took the seat off and saw that the battery was red hot and had swelled to almost exploding point. So I'm thinking that the regulator rectorfier has gone , that was why it was over charging the battery.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem - some advice and help would be much appreciated.

Also I have heard that there is a modification that some Sv owners have done to the regulator if anyone has any info or a link that would great.

That's typical of the RR giving up the ghost, smelled like rotten eggs?

Use the search function, there's loads of advice on upgrading the RR

Pointy or Curvy?
It does sound like your rectifier has gone wonky in a big way.
I'v not seen a battery that has swollen! any chance of a picture?.

Try this company for the rectifier

The rectifier in the link for the curvy is a Mosfet which is an upgrade and will see you good.

The rectifier blew on my ZXR400 a couple of years ago and took the ECU and battery with it. The battery swelled and burst, spewing liquid out (luckily my dad, who was riding it at the time, didn't get any of it on him). Not something I ever expected to see!

Yep, indeed. We should have taken pictures, the battery was about an inch wider than it should have been.
