Default removing cat?

Hi,

I had my bike (2020 model ) lowered when i bought it, only by 30mm, its not something thats caused me issues on my previous bikes, although i should probably check what the ground clearance is like on the stock suspension.

However, I've noticed as ive used my bike alot more recently i seem to be hitting what i believe is the cat on silly things like speed humps, or the ground if there uneven roads, especially when leaning over. There have been times where my mate has commented that he thought my side stand and exhaust seemed to be very close to ground so im not 100% sure if its simply the lowering, or just that the bike hasnt adapated to change over the years.

I know they keep putting bigger cats and stuff like that but I was wondering if simply removing the cat would be easy/possible without needing to tune the bike etc ive already put a scorpion slip on exchaust so was hoping i could just buy some simple replacement pipe, even if only to protect the cat from further damage, and can be put back on for MOT / future sale etc.

Would welcome any feedback

Default Re: removing cat?

A quick google reveals that a decat pipe is available for the 2016> SV650.

I had a quick look on the GPR UK website but couldn't see it listed, so you'd need to call.

Holeshot Performance, a US company, also sells a "race use only" cat free exhaust but with import duties that would be expensive.

but there's one on ebay: https://tinyurl.com/35eh3fkd

(but it's located in Italy)

I would imagine the SV would be loud without the cat and a Scorpion can.

If the cat was scraping I would have thought you would have seen the scrape marks on it. As loony teens, my friends and I would deliberately see how much we could scrape our side/main stands and foot pegs on our (small) bikes. The point being that the scrapes were plainly visible.
