Nos Galan - Celtic New Year
This is how decent folk in Cymru celebrate the turning of the proper new year. None of this Gregorian calendar stuff thank you, we'll stick to the Julian calendar.
A decorated horse skull on a pole, and a medieval rap battle (pwnco, to give it it's correct name) in order to gain access to pubs and houses, and the food and drink therein. There was also a twmpath on the main street at 10.30pm and singing in the pub afterwards. This was at y Llew Coch in Dinas Mawddwy last night. https://youtube.com/shorts/nwJ6KOpne...8lejF3n6Oa7BiY

Re: Nos Galan - Celtic New Year
Looks like fun. Noson Galan has faded here but I also don't like to drive to pubs...

Re: Nos Galan - Celtic New Year
I have little knowledge of Celtic customs but around here there is a custom of pulling the plough that should take place on the first Monday after the 6th of Jan. It does takes place on the Saturday after the 6th. But to the east of us usually on the same day is the Whittlsea Straw bear festival and that's where I was on Saturday slowly freezing to death! What we find interesting is the Molly dancing, a form of dancing that has its tradition in the Fens and I know of no local Molly sides around here. A really enjoyable day out but a cold one!
From earlier festivals Pig Dyke Molly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLrJbmUsI3g Old Glory Molly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGzttUvBthw I hope these traditions last many years |
