Oh, and an old racing story from the 70s: at a Spanish GP, the English contingent including Sheene, Steve Parrish, Tony Rutter etc were all racing. Tony Rutter had a big off in the 250cc class and was taken to hospital.

After the racing had finished, a group of the English racers went to the hospital to see how Tony was getting on. They asked to see him, and got the reply: "No, no Tony Rutter here, no-one by that name."

So they walked the wards and found Tony in a bed, asleep with plaster casts on, with the name 'Frank Thomas' above his bed. You can guess who made his leathers

My first boots were FT. Lasted me years. Full calf jobs, five buckles up the side, white fisherman's socks turned over the top... Very 80's. The socks were down to my wide feet - needed to go up a size and the thick socks took up the slack everywhere else. Boots now seem to be a bit narrower in the calf, hence your issue I guess John.

Sensible price for waterproof boots so hope they break in well.

Enjoyable day today. Out with Mabel for a 6 mile walk on trails, back lanes, and woodland tracks, in glorious sunshine. Back for a quick bite to eat and then out again, this time on the bike for a thirty mile local loop and a late coffee in Welshpool.

Very pleasant.

We took Beau for his first ride in the car for his first walk in the woods yesterday. He handled both really well, settling in the car almost immediately then being absolutely fascinated by being properly outside. Jack (our older dog) even tried to initiate play, but due to Beau's lack of recall he was on his long lead so it didn't really happen. We will be working very hard on the recall so he can be allowed off lead for running fun. A fenced doggy paddock will be hired this week to allow for off lead time and further recall work.

We had our little grand daughter to stay for the weekend as well. Beau was brilliant with her and very careful when around her. He was so good we decided he must have been around children in one of his previous 'homes'. Still work to do to stop begging (and potentially stealing) food from her but a great start.

Currently both dogs at my feet in the office. Beau now has the run of the house like Jack.

That sounds really promising Mike. Beau would seem to be off to a great start, especially given how short a time he's been with you so far, and his previously unsettled history.

A day full of odds n' sods today. Just given Mabel a shortish walk, blood test booked for 11.30, look in on some friends' dogs after that, then bike cleaning time followed by house cleaning time.

Sheesh! What an exciting life I lead!

Nice little run out on the bike once I'd cleaned it.

I had a small pack of seed potatoes to deliver to someone over in Llanymynech so took the bike as it was warm and dry. Then a roundabout route to Welshpool to pick up a couple of bits of food shopping, and then back home.

A good little loop of about 25 miles.

Morning all. Another sunny day here lots of outdoor stuff to be getting on with. First is a good walk with Mabel, then I need to go in search of some sweet pea seeds as I discovered I don't have any in my seed tin. I also need to pick up some food items I forgot to get yesterday. I think this means I'll need to get the bike out again.

How about everyone else? All ok?

Work. Boo!

Went in to the office today and found so much salt and sandy grit on the roads my traction control cut in several times. Quite glad I chose not to go out o the bike on Sunday now.
