Where we will disagree is on the appropriate sanction. I don't care what sort of bloke he was, why he was on the bike, what he was planning on doing with it - to me all this is completely irrelevant. I freely accept that the criminal justice system has serious failings. But property rights come a poor second in my opinion, and nobody deserves to die for any wrong that they have done. To say that the death of a thief on a stolen motorbike is deserved is abhorrent. Human life is unique. This is why I flatly reject any form of capital punishment, whatever the crime, yes even for rape and murder, and why I am certain that if I were on a death sentence jury I would refuse to convict.

Death is part of life. As soon as your born, your getting closer to death. When that moment comes, can mostly be defined by you.

Property is not the issue here. Its the mindset. This person does not care about anyone else, so why should anyone else care about him (bar his "mates n family").

Whilst your beliefs on capital punishment are your own beliefs, and theres nothing wrong with that, i do wonder if your opinions carry on to believing the "nanny state" helps us all, because we're all one and we're all humans.

Sure, i'd go with this too, if the world was full of nice friendly people, where crime wasn't an issue, and the mentality of humans was to evolve, progress, be peacefull and enjoy life.

But it isn't. The world is a bitch of a place plagued by humans. Sometimes, some of the waste needs to be disposed of. In this case, the trashcan won.

Wonder if said person had a doner card and had offered his body organs in event of death to help someone else live on? Doubtfull also.

But then I also guess, if there was no crime, not as many lawyers would be needed, so they wouldn't be able to afford that 3rd house, or 20th Armarni suit. And that would suck

The Northern Ireland situation is very different. I can see why the scheme has been designed in this way. The aim is to advance the peace process and to bring healing. Inevitably there are going to be winners and losers, but analysing on a blame basis is not going to help.

See maybe this is where the crux of the matter lies. In this case, I don't wish he was dead but I am not bothered that he died. Thousands of people die every day, and 99% of them were not doing illegal acts and were probably much kinder people than this boy. So why feel so sorry for him and not the true innocent people who die?

+1 on this - would have been a better result if he had just broken bones and then done some time for theft.

Not that bothered that it didnt turn out that way tho.

There is a difference between not wishing someone dead and feeling sorry for them that they have died. I have no sympathy that this person died. But I still would not have wished him dead.

Thank f'ck we do have a legal system in place. Because if half the people in this thread were allowed to kill anyone who stole from someone else, there would be a trail of dead bodies all over the UK. The thieves and the whole of their families.

Someone choses to deprive me of my transport, my freedom, or in the case of some of my mates their livelihood too and I will value that above such a scrotes miserable existence.

If it were my bike he'd crashed on I'd feel more guilty if I ran a rabbit over.

Here's one I heard on KTM forum on a wanted poster for some hopefully-soon-to-be-ex bike thief "these scroats don't care how long it took you to save for your pride and joy".
