Bending to a crouch like the women in that vid just wouldn't work, I'm in pain staying in that position for more than a min or so anyway so putting all that extra weight on them would cripple me...
Getting YC to accompany you on a pick-up-the-bike trip to a deserted bit of grass, or car-park with an old blanket(for the floor under the bike) would be worth it. Try on his bike as well. The back-to-bike way is recommended across t'interweb (that source of all good advice!), esp. for bigger bikes. You and the bike are jamming against each other, facing the bike, the bike is pulling you over with it. I'll try on my SV tomorrow and tell you how I got on.

I could pick the Rebel cruiser 125 from an upside down position in next doors garden...when I say upside down, I don't mean flat on its side, I mean UPSIDE DOWN!
Adrenaline and annoyance at being a wally made me practically pick it up with one arm and chuck it back upright, damn that thing was heavy.
I spent 3 days climbing the stairs backwards on my bum and a week on steroid tablets. What I didn't know at the time was a few months previous I had fractured a vertebrae, and tilted pelvis in a fall, so I have a very weak point in my spine.

There is no way I can pick the SV up. Never have never will be able to. Doesn't matter what the correct technique is, I'll never do it. I can't even get a bike on a centre stand...good job none of mine have them then!
I reckon it'll take Maria a bleddy long time to be able to pick a bike up, shes only just started, so has to grow some popeye muscles. And shes tiny, so lifting an SV wiill be out of the question, shes half the size of me, and even with my spinach eating I struggle to lift it three inches off the floor.
Give her a few months of longer riding for her to gain strength without noticing and she'll be flinging the YBR up the kamakaze drive

MYK-----All good advice but there is no shame in asking for assistance from a helpful passerby if available ---No point in having picked the bike up and injuring yourself in doing it,especially bearing in mind that you may have already injured yourself in dropping it.

Now you know why I refuse to come anywhere near it whilst riding!
Ok not half the size, I may be tall, but I am nowhere near the 8 stone I reckon you are, even before I gained the half stone this last few months

DT is right, I've never been shy to scream up the staircase when I've been pinned by a fallen over SV, in fact even the strongest of men have had an SV and Rappie fall over embarrassingly in a public place, and been thankful for assistance of others.

Not sure I could pick up my bike in the way shown in the video, looks like it would over balance and then fall on the stand and go over again. Fine a low rider HD, but not with a tall bike.

When I dropped my SV outside the garage, I picked it up and felt a muscle go in my groin, that really hurt so when it went over outside Carols Nan's flat recently, we both lifted it up and it was much easier and I did not get hurt again. Simple really.

I did feel like a proper pillock though!

When my bike went over i just grabbed the bars with both hands and as soon as able got a leg under the tank and started just walking it up i found the sv fairly easy to pick up i think swearing helps alot in these situations

nice to hear your getting on well with the riding though MYC you will be getting your knee down before you know it
