Correction, Tablet manufacturers took Android and stuck it on tablets.

Yes, until Honeycomb hits the streets Android IS essentially a Phone OS, but oh, look, someone, due to the open nature of Android, was able to get it to do what they wanted/needed it to do.

iPhone users shop at Waitrose or M&S though as its the same grub but we like the fancier packaging.

As said, check your house insurance or your Barclaycard/similar often covers phones.

Also may be worth a go at the Apple Store, lad at work recently had an out of warranty iPod touch and his kid dropped it and smashed the screen - Apple store just gave him a replacement.

How is iTunes important, except as an example of a manufacturer managing to put a hurdle in the way of a customer using their product.

Oh and ensuring Vendor Lock In

Sainsbury's is nice it's just when people shop there and never step foot into Asda for no reason other than because they think it makes them better

Best substitutions system Don't pay extra for the equivalent stuff

At the end of the day whatever floats your boat....I personally think Android is good and ticks my boxes and I think it will always be making good strides forward.

I also refuse to pay silly money for apple products, regardless of how good they might be....atleast with the supermarket analogy I have the option to buy some bits from one place and other bits from another, if I had to always shop in one place it wouldn't be Sainbury's if you know what I mean, just a waste of hard earned cash in my eyes. But that's my view and not everyones...

OK for an experienced I.T. person such as yourself, yes I can see why you think and feel like you do about it. But using Liz as an example of an ordinary end user, she bought her iphone and her ipod, plugged them in and with in minutes was downloading music to it without any intervention or help from me and I think that is one massive positive that is often over looked. in that IMHO its a piece of p*ss to get the products working.
