I might suggest you give it a go, just once mind, but perhaps it'll allow you to see it a different way and address your concerns ?

When I first left the Army my brothers were into clay shooting and invited me along, tried it once, but just showed the limited way they saw it, so never went again, I found I liked the skill of target shooting more that just firing the things.

Or of course it could be I'm just weird and yours is a normal view

I'd argue that munitions were developed more for defensive reasons than offensive ones. The defence of the nation, rather than the conquering of another one. Certainly they have been used for both. Sort of like the A-bomb, it was wanted to end the way (or so we're led to believe), but now, that technology is used for intimidation.

I mean, if I wre living somewhere that it was legal, I would probably have a gun (hidden away from the kids) somewhere for defense.

Scumbag breaks into my house & he'd soon find he had no knee caps. That's assuming I could shoot to save my life (pardon the pun).

I'm not saying no one should have them, but you should have a reason. Having one cos you like guns seems like a good reason for not being allowed one.
OK, using that basic arguement, a parachute, generally used far more for recreation than saving life(it's original purpose), so is jumping from a perfectly good plane with one MISUSED ?

You could also make the point target shooting is a sport and so they aren't misused at all in that context, generalizing the weapons issue opens it up to all sorts of interpritation, but I think it's the milartry spec weapons that taint peoples perseption I'll admit I did enjoy air rifle & .22 target shooting at one point, which was equally taxing for acuracy.

Complicated issue, you'll never get everyone to agree, but like most things a degree of tollerance is called for.

Cheers Mark.

We might have the highest level of teenage pregnancy and drug taking in the EU, but we kill less people with guns than most.

Razor, I'm sure I've seen that scene in a film. Now if only I could remember which one.

I think it's a from Jackie Brown. It's a gun advert, which, if I recall correctly, was made specifically for the film.
